Today I made a couple of friends at the end of my run while trying to achieve a new personal record (a 3 mile run in under an hour… I know, my standards are pretty low at this point, but I have to start somewhere!) :)
After two miles, I glanced at the clock and realized that I was making AWESOME time (“awesome” being somewhat relative at this point,) and decided to push it for the last mile. When I got to the very end (which is slightly uphill), the voices in my head were urging me to slow down, and I fought the voices out loud: “GO, Rina, JUST GO!” I yelled (audibly) at myself. As soon as I said it, I glanced up, and there were two people sitting on the porch of the house I was about to pass, and they started clapping and cheering me on! That was awesome, and it made me laugh and was exactly the push I needed to keep going. Afterward, I got to visit with them for a little while and I have to admit, in the back of my head I was thinking: “if I get to know these two pretty well, I wonder if they’ll let me come inside for a glass of water every now and then?”
My husband must have gotten worried about me when I didn’t come home right away, though, because he loaded all the kids into the fifteen passenger van to “go get mommy.” I imagine he had visions of me passed out on the side of the road somewhere!
My end time: 3 miles in 35 minutes!!!
(ok, wait, does that sound ridiculous to anyone else??? My last 3 mile run took me an hour and a half, and the one before that took two hours. Now I’m wondering if I looked at the clock wrong!!! At the MOST, though, I’m off by 10 minutes, because I do know right around what time I ended. So, either way, it’s three miles in less than an hour! Well, anyway, I guess there’s always next week to time it all over again. ) :)
Update: I did time it again, and now I know for sure that I did NOT do this run in 35 minutes, but more likely in 45.
